2nd Annual Isanti County Active Living Rum River Bicycle Classic
It was a beautiful day for a bike ride! With orange shirts lining the roads, bicyclists toured Isanti County on Saturday, August 13, 2005.
Isanti County Active Living sponsored the second successful Rum River Bicycle Classic to promote Active Living and raise money for their featured ALbD project, the Cambridge-Isanti Bike/Walk Trail. The ride featured four routes, 14, 21, 40 or 60 miles through Isanti County. Over 220 riders participated in this fundraiser which showcased the "bikeability" of Isanti County. The ride started and finished at the Anoka Ramsey Community College in Cambridge and there were rest stops in Isanti, Cambridge, Braham and Maple Ridge Township.
Isanti County Active Living attracted cash sponsorship of over $6,000 for the event and in-kind sponsors who provided food and beverages. The enthusiastic volunteers included newcomers and veterans of the annual bike ride.
Participants from Minnesota, Wisconsin and as far away as Germany took advantage of the ride. The riders complimented the well-marked routes, the Active Living by Design program and the great food from beginning to end. Low levels of traffic and the scenic beauty of rural Minnesota also garnered praise from the participants.
Isanti County Active Living strengthened the tie with the community by promoting Active Living with this bike tour of Isanti County. The partnership spoke to local doctors about the importance of Active Living and promoting physical activity with their patients.
The Isanti County Active Living partnership was pleased with the success of the ride, saying that "we hope that by doing this event, as well as others, we can reach key people in our community to help us reach our goals."
