Lead Agency: East Bay Asian Youth Center
This project is funded under the Foundation's program, Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities, which was designed to implement systems, policies and environmental strategies with potential to prevent childhood obesity in populations at greatest risk. The purpose of the project is to effect systems change by transforming 25 elementary schools into neighborhood hubs where children and their families regularly acquire fresh food and engage in physical activity. Deliverables include establishing weekly Organic Produce Markets with wrap-around nutrition/garden education, outreach campaigns for Food Stamp and Free/Reduced School Lunch enrollment and redesigning and renovating schoolyards with organized sports and outdoor education.
